Monitoring Solutions

When providing perioperative care, clinicians may benefit from continuous monitoring of key physiologic measurements and intuitive centralised displays of real-time patient data. Masimo offers multiple advanced noninvasive and continuous monitoring technologies, available on a single integrated platform and on select third-party multi-parameter monitors.

Masimo's breakthrough Signal Extraction Technology® (SET®) overcomes the limitations of conventional pulse oximetry with the ability to measure through motion and low perfusion.

Masimo rainbow SET™ technology, which leverages multiple additional wavelengths of light, is a suite of noninvasive measurements including total haemoglobin (SpHb®) and dyshaemoglobins. The rainbow SET technology platform also uniquely offers Pleth Variability Index (PVi®), a noninvasive dynamic parameter that helps clinicians monitor fluid responsiveness in mechanically-ventilated patients, and Oxygen Reserve Index (ORi™ ), a noninvasive and continuous parameter that provides insight into the oxygen reserve of patients receiving supplemental oxygen.

With measurement innovation at its core, Masimo has continued to expand its monitoring technologies to include brain function monitoring and cerebral oximetry. Masimo’s Next Generation SedLine® brain function monitoring features an enhanced processed EEG index (PSi) with four leads of bilateral EEG, less susceptibility to EMG interference, and improved performance in low power EEG cases.

These monitoring solutions are available on the Root® patient monitoring and connectivity platform, as well as on select third-party multi-parameter monitors. Root’s plug-and-play expansion capabilities allow clinicians to centralise patient monitoring by bringing together rainbow SET Pulse CO-Oximetry, Next Generation SedLine brain function monitoring, and O3 regional oximetry on an easy-to-interpret, customisable display, providing clinicians with more information for patient assessment.

Total Haemoglobin – SpHb

Noninvasive and continuous SpHb provides real-time visibility to changes, or lack of changes, in haemoglobin between invasive blood samples

Masimo - SpHb Chart - PLM-10283B

SpHb trend monitoring may provide additional insight between invasive blood samples when:

  • The SpHb trend is stable and the clinician may otherwise think haemoglobin is dropping
  • The SpHb trend is rising and the clinician may otherwise think haemoglobin is not rising fast enough
  • The SpHb trend is dropping and the clinician may otherwise think haemoglobin is stable

Pleth Variability Index – PVi

PVi is a noninvasive dynamic parameter that helps clinicians monitor fluid responsiveness in mechanically-ventilated patients

  • PVi is an automatic measurement of the dynamic changes in Perfusion Index (Pi) that occur during one or more respiratory cycles
  • PVi may show changes that reflect physiologic factors such as vascular tone, circulating blood volume, and intrathoracic pressure excursions

Oxygen Reserve Index — ORi

ORi is a noninvasive and continuous parameter intended to provide insight into a patient’s oxygen status in the moderate hyperoxic range, defined as a patient’s oxygen “reserve”

ORi with Masimo SET® pulse oximetry may provide:

  • Expanded visibility during preoxygenation prior to intubation
  • Potential advanced warning of impending desaturation, helping clinicians intervene sooner
  • Insight into oxygen reserve when titrating patients who are receiving supplemental oxygen
Masimo - SedLine Digital One Up

Next Generation SedLine features an enhanced processed EEG index (PSi) and an enhanced Multitaper Density Spectral Array (DSA).

Next Generation SedLine provides a more complete picture of the brain with:

  • Four simultaneous channels of frontal EEG waveforms
  • An enhanced Patient State Index (PSi) with less susceptibility to EMG interference and improved performance in low power EEG cases
  • A DSA display, which contains left and right spectrograms representing the power of the EEG on both sides of the brain
  • An optional Multitaper DSA display, which may improve visibility of EEG features
Masimo - O3 Intubated Regional Oximetry

O3 Regional Oximetry uses near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) to enable monitoring of cerebral tissue oxygen saturation (rSO2)

  • Helps clinicians monitor cerebral oxygenation in situations in which pulse oximetry alone may not be fully indicative of the oxygen in the brain
  • Seamlessly integrates with the Root platform alongside SedLine brain function monitoring for a more complete brain monitoring solution
Masimo - Kite Image Display

Kite® Supplemental Display

Kite expands visibility of patient data on Root via a supplemental display

  • The expanded, customisable display allows multiple clinicians to view patient data simultaneously, even in a crowded environment, which may reduce errors caused by miscommunication
  • By customising what is displayed, Kite allows clinicians to focus on the most pertinent data for each stage of a patient’s care, empowering clinicians to make more informed decisions

ORi has obtained CE Marking. Not available in the U.S. or Canada.

SpHb monitoring is not intended to replace laboratory blood testing. Blood samples should be analysed by laboratory instruments prior to clinical decision making.
